The government of Moscow has confirmed new rules for the use of the Metropolitan
The government of Moscow has confirmed new rules for the use of the capital’s underground railway. In the new wording of the rules posted on the site Lenta.ru, passengers will be obliged to show travel papers at the first request from Metropolitan staff.
Passengers will be obliged to show their travel documents because of increasingly frequent cases of passengers using the travel documents issued to relatives who are entitled to concessional travel. In cases where an employee of the Metropolitan has doubts that a passenger has passed through a turnstile using their own card, the employee has the full right to demand the passenger shows their travel documents. A former edition of the rules did not forbid the transfer of tickets.
Before the modification of the rules for the use of the Metropolitan, it was the responsibility of the militia to check travel documents. If it appeared that the passenger had used someone else’s concessional card, the travel card was confiscated or the passenger was charged with the offence of travelling without a ticket.
