43 new stations for the Moscow Metropolitan by 2015
Mytischi. 30th September, INTERFAX.RU - the capital’s Metropolitan will grow with the addition of new stations by 2015, the Minister of Transport of the Russian Federation Igor Levitin said at a joint off-site session of the Board of the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation, the governments of Moscow and the Moscow area.
"With the purpose of improving transport service to the population of Moscow and reducing the overload on operating lines of the Metropolitan, 79 km of new line, 43 stations and seven depots are planned to be built 2015", the minister said.
This is a particular part of the program of development for transport in the Moscow region, scheduled for the period 2010 tor 2015.
Levitin noted that now about 24% of the capital’s population lives in large housing areas which do not have access to the Metropolitan. The backlog in the construction of lines exceeds 100 kilometres.
According to the calculations of the Ministry of Transport, after the program is implemented the general extent of the underground network will grow from about 292 km in 2007 to 371 km in 2015. In addition, with the building of a third ring in the Metropolitan there will be the possibility of connecting to new areas in the Moscow area.
