Moscow will refuse tickets in ground transport by 2012
The Moscow city ground transport will cancel tickets in the next four years. They will be replaced by a uniform transport card, or a bank card, or phone, the First Deputy Head of the Department of Transport and Communication of Moscow Alexander Vorobev said.
“We will move away from means of payment that require contact to contactless means. Certainly, for this purpose there should be the broadest system of sale. In particular, uniform transport cards which will operate in Moscow, Moscow area, on the railway and in the Metropolitan”, said Vorobev.
The second way for payment suggested by the Department is payment by means of bank cards.
Also trips on city ground transport could be paid by phone.
Buying tickets from the driver will shortly disappear. This is a necessary measure, said Vorobev, so that drivers are not distracted from their work.
New ways of fare payment on ground transport in Moscow, developed by the Smart Technologies Group, were shown at an exhibition "Development of a transport complex of the Moscow region". The Exhibition was held within the framework of a joint session of the Board of the Ministry of Transport of Russia, and the governments of Moscow and the Moscow area.
